CREATURE COMFORTS
An Exploration Of Different Mediums & Methods To Construct Animals Or Insects.

PESTILENCE / 2021/ Mixed Media/ 7" X 8"/ Materials: Silver candelabra, pocket watch case, mouse bones, watch gears, and a skull. After finding a broken Goliath beetle, I felt compelled to rescue it, resulting in this steampunk bug.

RED / 2014/ Mixed Media/ 13" x 18"/ Materials: vintage book, piano keys, tennis racquet press, onyx skull, and globe bookends. A ‘red’ themed art show inspired the creation of this wolf from an antique Red Riding Hood book.

FIRE BREATHER / 2020/ Papier Mâche & Mixed Media/ 40" x 31"/ Materials: made with wire, paper, glue, vinyl, wooden xylophone resonators, and cellophane. A broken wooden xylophone reminded me of spines, inspiring me to create this fire-breathing reptile.

GAZELLE / 2023/ Mixed Media/ 31" X 12"/ Materials: Shed antelope horns, wireframe, faux fur, leather, marbles, pillow cover, and a tweed men's suit coat. An animal-friendly version of the trophy head.

FISHING FOR COMPLEMENTS / 2022/ Mixed Media/ 15" X 42"/ Materials: Corn holders, a crutch, a tennis racquet, a folding measuring stick, and random toys. I wanted to make a piece that played with complementary colors.

CHEVY / 2020/ Papier Mâche/ 23" x 13"/ Materials: Chicken wire frame, paper, glue, vintage Chevy catalogs, matchbox car, and glass eyes. A mascot, a Bassett Hound named Chevy, was commissioned for Dade City Brewery, which is housed in an old Florida Chevrolet dealership.

MY FEATHERED FRIEND / 2022/ Mixed Media/ 10" x 7"/ Materials: carved wood, canning lid, tin, croquet ball, finial, marble, paint, feathers, shoe buckle, and watch parts. An old croquet ball inspired this steampunk bird.

LOCUST / 2023/ Mixed Media/ 12" x 21"/ Materials: A piano stool, bedpost, rattan, spoons, tongs, eyeglass frames, square wood nails, and various gingerbread trim. An abandoned piano stool inspired this creature.

MOTHER NATURE / 2018/ Mixed Media/ 16" x 11"/ Materials: Naturally shed Iguana skin & spines, doll parts, wire, clay, wool, feathers, magnolia leaves, vines, leather, and printer's letters. I decided to commemorate my 14-year-old, 6-foot, 15 lb. iguana when he passed away by creating this from his shed skin that I had been collecting for years.

BROOD X / 2023/ Wire Bending/ 18 " x 12"/ Materials: 16 lb. wire and billiard balls. Delving into bending wire for the first time resulted in the birth of this cicada.

LEO / 2019/ Mixed Media/ 31" X 22"/ Materials: Dog leads, shoe lasts, a tennis racquet & frame, a steamer, eyeglass ear pieces, leather, earrings, wood framing, and a lawn mower pull. Born from the inspiration brought on by an inherited bag of dog leads.
